Aloha Hawaii Foodbank Great Chefs® Fight Hunger attendees,
With news of Hawaii’s first confirmed case of COVID-19 and after consulting with several state health experts, we have decided to postpone this year’s Great Chefs® Fight Hunger event on Saturday, March 14.
The person infected with the COVID-19 is a Hawaii resident who was a passenger aboard the Grand Princess cruise ships that was docked on Oʻahu in late February. The Hawaii resident returned home after the cruise, did not feel well after a few days and went to see a doctor. His positive test was confirmed today.
While the resident is reported to be doing well and self-quarantined, we strongly believe the decision to postpone our event is a responsible one based on the unknowns of this virus and the potential others were exposed to it.
We are extremely grateful for the support of our restaurant partners and vendors, and the many attendees who registered and planned for the event.
We look forward to rescheduling our gala event when the threat abates.
We will continue to keep you informed with accurate and timely updates. Mahalo for your flexibility and understanding.
Wishing you and your families a safe weekend.
Mahalo nui loa.
With respect and aloha,
Ron Mizutani,President and CEO, Hawaii Foodbank
